*** Ibizan Litter Planned Spring 2009*****

Image

Welcome to the online home of Kamar Ibizans. Currently, I show in AKC, UKC and IABCA shows and course in ASFA and AKC.  I am past Vice President of my veterinary class and a member and current Health and Research Chair of the Ibizan Hound Club of the United States since 2002.

I hope to continue to preserve the Ibizan Hound through breeding healthy, beautiful, functional hounds.  I encourage potential Ibizan owners to do plenty of research, be patient and purchase their special puppy from a reputable breeder.  I welcome potential puppy owner inquiries for planned litters.  If I do not have a litter planned in a coat length you prefer, please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to direct you toward an ethical breeder.

My Ibizans complete vigorous health testing including annual CERF, BAER, AKC DNA, OFA Hips and OFA Thyroid prior to breeding.   The Ibizans are registered with the American Kennel Club.

I invite you to sit down, relax and enjoy your visit.

About Myself and Kamar Ibizans:

My name is Katie Belz DVM and I am a small animal medicine resident at Virginia Tech located in beautiful Blacksburg, Va.  I completed my undergraduate training and veterinary medical education at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.  I then spent a year in Gainesville FL at the University of Florida  completing my internship.

My involvement in canine events started over a decade ago in the obedience ring with Ally, my rescued German Shepherd.  Honestly, my involvement almost ended during my first obedience match when Ally defecated in the ring and we got disqualified!!! As a 12 year old girl I was crushed and told my mother I never wanted to compete again.  As fate would have it my mother and obedience instructor encouraged me to try again and sure enough we got a score of 197 and went High in Trial.  I was hooked!  I ended up finishing Ally’s CD easily with multiple High In Trials including one at the German Shepherd Club of Hawaii’s Regional Specialty.  Ally and I were the Novice demo team for Obedience Training Club of Hawaii (Surely if a 12 yr old girl with an 80 pound dog can train and successfully compete in obedience anyone can!!)

I trained Ally through Open obedience and agility, but never competed as she was diagnosed with severe Hip Dysplasia.  After obedience Ally became a Therapy dog with Aggieland Pets with a Purpose and specialized in working with abused children.  Fluffy, my rescue Papillon also became a Therapy dog and spent her time visiting hospital patients and participating in physical therapy.

Who would have EVER guessed I would end up showing Ibizans in conformation and lure coursing!

About the same time I adopted Ally (1994), I was given an all breed dog encyclopedia. I was immediately drawn to the tall, lithe, ancient, elegant refined Ibizan Hound.  I fell head over heals in love with this picture and knew I wanted to become involved with this breed.  Since this time, I researched, read and talked to as many breeders and owners that I could find.  I saw my first Ibizan in the flesh in 1999 at the World Dog Show in Mexico City, Mexico.  I was living in Mexico City at the time and had the opportunity to visit the World Dog Show for a day.  It was crowded but I enjoyed watching the show and looking at all the different breeds.  I looked up from the ring and saw a BEAUTIFUL Ibizan standing proudly on a grooming table.  I couldn’t believe it!  I wanted to meet it so badly, but the crowd wasn’t moving and by the time I made it to the grooming set up they were gone.  I spent the rest of the day trying to find it, but was unsuccessful.

In March of 2001, I was working on my Bachelor of Biomedical Science Degree at Texas A&M when I meet SBIS CH Rosenhill’s Tearose Soraya at the BVKC shows.  She was beautiful, sweet and moved so graceful and lightly.  I made it out to the Ibizan National in Lubbock, Texas in 2002 and met many Ibizans, breeders and owners.  In April of 2005 I attended the Ibizan National in Shreveport, La.  In May of 2005, I made the 2200 mile drive to Lisa Puskas in Phoenix, Az to pick up the Ibizan I’ve been waiting almost half my life for.  Eight month old Java finally joined my home. I can honestly say I’ve been involved in the breed in one way or the other since 1994, but have been owned by one since May 05! Talk about a long wait!

Over the years I have fallen in love with this beautiful, elegant, fun loving, goofy, lithe breed.  I have meet many wonderful Ibizan owners and I thank God that I can call many of them my friends who I look forward to preserving this marvelous breed with.

Currently, we are located on 8 beautiful rolling acres in Christiansburg , VA.  I welcome visitors to meet the dogs and talk about the breed.  Just email me! :)
